The Beaumont Hotel in Ouray, Colorado, was completed in December, 1886, and hosted Presidents and royalty.
The prominent white flowers on tall stalks are the blooms of Bear Grass.
The plant growing on the outcrop in the middle of the stream is pink monkey flower.

 Clear Lake lies at an elevation of just under 12,000 feet with a 13,000 foot ridge of mountains surrounding it including South Lookout Peak at 13,852.
The Ghost town of Animas Forks lies high in the San Juan Mountains at 11,200 feet. Occupied from 1873 to 1939, only a few buildings remain. Click to enlarge Animas Forks

Imogene Basin is near the top of the Imogene Pass four-wheel drive Road between Ouray and Telluride.
Located near the top of Poughkeepsie Gulch, Lake Como is surrounded by the remains of mines and prospect holes.
For all prints, the outer mat colors are listed. Inner mats are chosen to accent the photos. All sizes given are finished sizes of the mats. D indicates a double mat; S indicates a single mat. All photographs except panoramas are available as photo notecards, blank inside.

The city and county of Ouray are both named after Chief Ouray, a Ute Indian leader.

The gold-domed San Juan County Courthouse is a symbol of the town's previous prosperity. These mountains were formed between 20 and 30 million years ago by a series of volcanic uplifts and eruptions which have gradually weathered away. High alpine lakes are common in the glacier-carved basins of the San Juan Mountains. Frequently above tree line, they provide excellent fishing, habitat for animals and birds, and water for lush vegetation. During July and August, wildflowers are abundant. Durango was founded in 1880 by the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad. By August of 1881 the railroad line from Antonito was completed and construction of a line to Silverton was started. The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad has been in continuous operation since 1882 and is powered by coal-fired, steam locomotives. Click to enlarge the 4 views of Durango
Named for a Ute Indian chief, Ouray is located in a small valley surrounded by colorful cliffs. Known as the "Gem of the Rockies," Ouray was Incorporated in September of 1876. By that Winter, the town boasted over 400 inhabitants. Click to enlarge the 4 views of Ouray
