| Kathryn Whitson graduated from California State University, Chico, with a B.A. in Anthropology and Archaeology and almost a minor in Art. She has worked in a variety of mediums: pen and ink drawing, weaving, hand spinning and bead working. She has participated in gallery shows, sales, and arts & crafts fairs across the Pacific Northwest. | |||
| Working as a survey archaeologist
and photographing archaeological sites, her keen sense of artistry has led
to this latest endeavor of creating digital collages. Color has always been
a big part of her life. Repetitions, both in nature and in the man-made
realm, appeal to her. She began experimenting with photographs of rock art
- cutting and arranging the pieces to come up with a blend of realism and
impressionism. No other elements have been added to the photographs to create
the images. The magic happens in the arranging. In her own words:
"I like to think that the illusion that happens between the rock art and the natural environment invites the viewer into the image. I hope that you will enjoy viewing this mesh of ancient art with a contemporary flair as much as I enjoy creating it." |
